Loupe is not having a great time in the afterlife - his best friend is a mangy alcoholic ghost dog who keeps invoicing him for therapy services, and it turns out that you don't get to sleep when you're dead - you get to work a 9-5 grind in a pointless job. But things are about to change, and an attempt to move on by exploring the past sets Loupe on a path that will inevitably end badly for everyone.
Expect to see blood, guts, dogs with moustaches, vile bureaucrats, time travel, the secret life of a cat named Mister Boots, weird triplets in a launderette and much more in this grim yet uplifting horror adventure comedy yarn. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh some more - then you'll wince and feel bad for laughing. But you'll get over it.
Will you like it? Well, if you like stories about people who are both drunk and dead, then it should be right up your back passage, as it were.
Will it answer your questions about life? Almost certainly not, unless you want to know more about goldfish poo and what cats get up to when you're not looking.
Will it answer your questions about death? Again, almost certainly not, since I made it up and it in no way reflects a realistic or experienced view of the afterlife.
Can I eat it? No, it is a book.
The Old Terra Vitae is a strange, perplexing, and occasionally ultraviolent journey into the twists and turns of the afterlife and what lies beyond that.

Well, The Old Terra Vitae was something else...What starts as a marvelously bleak tale of the afterlife culminates in a mind-bending explosion of what I like to call 'Holy F***.'
I didn't think the author could possibly tie the whole thing together in the end, but boy was I wrong! I think it's safe to say that anyone who can weave wisecracking therapist dogs, lizard-hunting dentists, two-faced angels and time-traveling non-humans into a macabre love story (because in a very far-fetched sense it is a love story) deserves our utmost respect and admiration.
The only issue I found is that the text could use a proofreader/editor, because my watchful eye spotted a few too many grammatical errors and typos to overlook.
But in any case, if you're looking for something different, something you're unlikely to have read before, I highly recommend this book.
(Oh, and by the way: once you've finished the book, you'll realize this cover is pure genius.)

I truly enjoyed this. I'm a huge fan of Vonnegut and often find myself reading very "beige" books, by all comparisons.
The Old Terra Vitae found a light in me that I've not felt for a while. Please, Take you're time reading it, It's a dry, soulfully narrated book with a beautiful "blink and you'll miss it" level of flow. I will be reading it a second time soon.
Seriously enjoyable and well worth the few quid.
